AUSTIN (KXAN) – The newly released feature film “True Grit” is one of several movies shot in Central Texas, which have helped Texas film production crews earn more money this year than any other.
So far this year, production crews have earned $21 million. That’s more than the previous three years combined with $7.4 million in 2008, $4.9 million in 2008 and $8.3 million in 2009. More than half of all that money was earned right here in Central Texas.
Film industry workers said the increase is mainly due to the incentives passed in the Texas Legislature . The increasing amount of film incentives have lured more and more film business into Texas since the program started in 2005.
“We have so many good and talented people in Texas that we’ve got to keep working. It’s so good now that we finally have these incentives,” said Meredith Johns.
Johns owns a special effects/make-up business in North Austin called Hawgfly Productions.
